About Import Duties & Taxes

Last updated: 12/10/2018
When you request a quotation for an international shipment, WL will respond with a proposal showing two main components:

- Logistics Services
- Duties & Taxes

Logistics Services covers all logistics & customs activities needed to move your parcel from origin to destination, including pick-up, warehousing, in/out handling, airport pick-up, insurance, international freight, customs declaration, DUTIES & TAXES payment (when appropriate), customs clearance, local warehousing, and local delivery.

Duties & Taxes: Duties are calculated on the CIF value of the merchandise (FOB Value + Freight + Insurance) and will depend on the HTS code of the good being imported. The resulting amount is added to the CIF value to form the base for import taxes. There may be many, the most common import tax is VAT (Value Added Tax).

Percentages for both, duties (%duty%) & taxes (%vat%), vary from country to country.

CIF Value = FOB Value + Freight + Insurance

Duties = CIF Value * %duty%

VAT = (CIF Value + Duties) * %vat%

Most countries dictate that import duties & taxes shall be paid directly by the importer.

If you want to use your own import license, WL will do customs declaration for you, get you a duties & taxes voucher for you to pay locally.

On the other hand, if you contracted the IoR (Importer of Record) service, then WL will be the importer, pay for duties & taxes, so you'll have nothing else to do.
